Family Support - Parent Groups
St Anthony’s Family Support Service organises a variety of events that enable parents in our disability services to come together. These events can be for parents only or include other family members such as siblings, grandparents and other significant carers. Events focus on providing parents with information and skill building opportunities or strengthening their social support by meeting other parents. Some of our recent events have included:
Parent Workshop Series:
Parents attended two workshops on “Finding Your Family’s Balance: Overcoming barriers to achieve the best outcome for your child with a disability and for everyone in the family.” Neil Nicoll, Developmental Psychologist with 20 years experience working in the disability sector, facilitated the workshops. The workshops addressed communicating with early intervention services, strengthening the family system and addressing the self care needs of all family members.
Family BBQ Fun Day:
The Family BBQ Fun Day provides families with an enjoyable day of fun, food and celebration. Activities are organised for both young and old to participate in and include face painting, sack races, kite flying and art and craft. Parents and siblings are able to meet other families and establish networks. The Family BBQ Fun Day is an event that supports International Day of People with Disability.
