Casework and Referral Services
St Anthony’s provides casework and referral services to all eligible clients. A Mobile Community Development Worker supports individual clients and families to overcome the challenges that they face in settling into Australia by providing them with information about Australia’s systems, assisting them to access mainstream services, acquiring skills for everyday living and helping to build their capacity to independently solve problems when they arise.

Settlement issues that clients often seek help with include:
Housing
Paying bills
Accessing English language services
Relationships
Family Violence
Employment
Children’s development
Health
Income Support
Access to government and non-government services

The service is mobile to be flexible to the needs of a variety of clients. The Mobile Community Development Worker’s regularly attend St Anthony’s Migrant Services supported playgroups to provide information and referral to those clients. For other clients referred for Casework, we deliver an appointment based service either in the client’s home, or at a nominated location in their local community.

To be eligible to access the Casework service, clients must meet the following criteria:

  • live in Sydney
  • have arrived in Australia within the last 5 years
  • entered Australia under the Humanitarian Program or Family stream Category
  • require assistance with issues relating to their settlement in Australia.

Group Information Sessions
St Anthony’s facilitates information sessions for SGP target group and other migrants settling into Australia. The sessions help with orientating participants to Australia by providing them with knowledge about accessing different services in their local community that can provide them with support. Developing knowledge of participants in the sessions helps to strengthen the capacity of newly arrived migrants to support themselves.

Group Information Sessions may include:

  • Understanding government departments
  • Filling in forms & using interpreters
  • Housing & tenancy issues
