Figtree Early Learning Centre

Learning experiences are planned to be responsive to the individual differences of each child’s learning style. The Figtree preschool program emphasis is on planning a range of activities including sensory experiences to support the children’s development in the cognitive/creative, social, emotional, physical and language domains. Much of this learning happens through supported play and exploration; therefore we focus on the process involved in activities rather than on encouraging the child to produce a ‘product’.

Opportunities are provided for small group play, one-to-one interactions with educators as well as time for each child to play and explore independently.

3-5 year olds are naturally curious about their environment and during this period children are rapidly developing an understanding of concepts, and are highly motivated to explore and set challenges for themselves.

We encourage children to act as initiators, investigators, explorers, problem solvers and creators. They are also guided into developing a spirit of cooperation and a caring and responsible attitude towards everyone in the centre. To support children in this, the program emphasis is on fostering self-esteem, emotional well being, communication, socialisation and self-help skills.

Educators work with the children in small groups and on a one-to-one basis. A key focus throughout the day is on guiding children to present their ideas through various symbolic means such as drawing, painting, verbal description, physical movement, storytelling, writing and socio-dramatic play.

What are your hours of operation?
Our operating hours are from 7:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.

What ages does Figtree Early Learning Centre cater for?
Figtree caters for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Our environments are arranged to ensure children are supported to develop to their full potential.

Can I change the days of care and how much notice do I need to provide?
Yes, changes to children’s enrolments are welcome where places are available. Figtree requires two weeks’ notice when changing days or when families are seeking to exit the service.

Does Figtree Early Learning Centre require a bond to be paid on enrolment and what is the daily fee?
A bond of $400 is required to secure your child’s enrolment. This is fully refundable upon exit from the service as long as two weeks’ notice has been provided. For the daily fee for each of our programs, please email us at [email protected] and a member of our team will be able to provide you with the information you need.

Will I be able to visit my child during the day?
Yes, we love to have families visit us and get involved in our educational programs. We encourage all our families to come in and spend time, participate in activities or share a special skill or interest with the children.

What happens if my child is sick or becomes ill during the day?
To ensure the health and safety of all our children we ask that parents keep sick children at home. If a child becomes ill while at Figtree, our educators will contact families to discuss your child’s symptoms. At times it may be necessary for your child to be collected from the Centre early, in which case, educators will ensure that your child is kept as comfortable as possible until you arrive.

What are the educator to child ratios?
To ensure that the best possible care is provided to all children, Figtree Early Learning Centre operates above the required educator to child ratio.

In New South Wales under the National Regulations, ratios are as follows:

Age of Child

Educator to Child Ratio

Birth to 24 months

Over 24 months and less than 36 months

Over 36 months – preschool age

Does Figtree Early Learning Centre offer a preschool program?
Yes, Figtree provides all children in the year prior to school with access to a structured preschool program.

How will I know that my child’s learning and development is being encouraged?
Our team of educators develop programs based on the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Using the EYLF, educators will observe your child’s learning so they can plan for the next step in your child’s development. They will do this by listening, watching and talking to your child. A daybook is also sent to families to share what learning and experiences have taken place throughout the day. This can then be discussed with your child at home to extend on the activities provided at Figtree.

In addition, each child has an individual learning story which illustrates their time and learning at the Centre, and as part of the individual planning process ,families also receive reports twice a year providing a formal update on their child’s development. Families are vital in the planning process for all children and we welcome feedback and the sharing of ideas.

Do you host social events for families?
Yes, our Centre offers families many opportunities to spend time at Figtree. Every year we host a family social to welcome new and existing families, mothers and father’s day events, as well as a Christmas party.

Will I be charged fees for public holidays?
No, the Centre does not charge fees for any day the service is closed. This includes our 3 week shutdown over the Christmas period.

Do you have an outdoor learning environment for the children?
Yes, Figtree has a large outdoor environment. Playing outside gives your child the chance to explore the natural environment and have adventures. Children can play their favourite games, test their physical limits and build self-confidence. In the outdoor learning environment children have more space and freedom for big movements, like running, jumping, kicking and throwing. Physical activities like these are good for health, fitness and physical development.

Are meals provided?
Yes, we provide children with four meals a day. Breakfast, morning tea, a hot lunch and afternoon tea. The carefully designed menu has been developed in consultation with nutritionists and dieticians to produce a menu that not only exceeds the national dietary guidelines but also creates a positive and appealing mealtime environment for children in our care. Special dietary requirements including cultural considerations and allergies can all be catered for upon request. To find out more about the catering company used SAFC please follow the link:

Will I be eligible for any subsidies or other financial assistance?

It is important to remember that while Child Care Benefit is based on family income, the Child Care rebate is not income tested.

Does my child need to be immunised?
Under the No Jab No Pay legislation, from 1 January 2016, parents must ensure their children meet the immunisation requirements which now apply for all children up to the age of 19, in order to be eligible for Child Care Benefit, including Registered Care.
